Hand-stripping

What is hand-stripping?

Hand-stripping removes dead and excess hair from the outer coat at the root to create room for new hair to grow through without coat getting too thick. This will ruin the appearance of the dog and make them uncomfortable.

Breeds which need hand-stripping will have a coarse top coat and a soft thick undercoat. For example, border terrier, schnauzer, cairns terrier, wire fox terrier, Airedale terrier, Irish wolfhound.

When the coat is ready, it will be painless to remove – we will advise you personally for how often your dog should be hand-stripped.

Usually around 4-6 months, but varies with each dog.

People choose to hand-strip their dog over clipping certain breeds as hand stripping keeps the coat’s colours and coarse texture. Clipping will allow the coat to grow back softer and duller.

There is a risk of infection if you bath your dog straight after a hand-strip due to the pores being opened, so we recommend coming back after 2 weeks for the dog’s bath. However, this is the customer’s choice and we will bath straight after if the owner chooses; provided they know about the risk.

Puppy Groom

Puppies should be introduced to grooming in a gentle way.

Puppies should be introduced to grooming in a gentle way.

We limit puppy grooms to an hour for your puppy’s comfort and well-being. All sessions will include bathing, brushing and eye and ear cleaning.

At your appointment, we will also consult with you about any other specific requirements you have, for example – nail clipping, pad trimming, sanitary area clean-up, etc.

We offer this service until your puppy is six months old and recommend monthly visits for your puppy to get used to the salon and treatments.

I also do a lot of the paperwork for Milly so that she can concentrate on transforming your gorgeous mucky pups to dazzling dapper dogs.

Hi! I’m Milly’s mum. I work full-time as an Environment Manager and, now, also as free weekend labour for Milly…you might see me cleaning the salon windows and mopping the floor as you walk past!

Milly Hustler

I am committed to continuous learning and attend relevant courses and conferences so that I can offer the best and most up to date services to our customers.

I also have a Business Management qualification which helps with the admin side of the job.

I am a fully qualified dog groomer and have also got a canine First Aid qualification so that – in the unlikely event that anything happens to your pup – I can make sure they are safe.

Hi, I’m Milly and I’ll be the one looking after and pampering your dogs in the salon. I love dogs and will ensure they are happy and comfortable whilst in my care as I know grooming can be a stressful time for some pooches.

To ensure that we are following all guidelines and keeping our customers safe, we have gained a COVID-19 safety qualification so that we are confident in minimising the risk of infection throughout your dog’s pampering session.
